Following the events of Loki season one and Spider-Man: No Way Home, the 28th MCU film will follow Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange through the alternate realities of the multiverse, as the sorcerer is forced to make new allies in order to defeat new enemies such as the villainous Strange Supreme. The long awaited sequel comes six years after its predecessors’ release, making it the longest gap for an MCU character’s sequel.

Following the reveal of the sequel’s runtime, new reports indicate that Doctor Strange 2 tickets will apparently go on sale in the U.S. on April 6th. The news comes from box office analyst Jatinder, who noted that a similar date will be chosen for Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. While not officially confirmed, this date would make sense, as most big blockbusters (most recently The Batman) have had their tickets go on sale roughly a month before their release, giving fans plenty of time to secure them.

On the other hand, other big MCU films like Spider-Man: No Way Home saw a narrower window, as the ticket sales date came less than three weeks before the film’s big December 17th release, most likely due to its secretive came appearances. And with a Doctor Strange sequel that looks to live up to No Way Home’s hype level, it’s understandable if tickets don’t go on sale until mid-April. But whatever turns out to be the case, fans can expect to see more images and possibly a final full length trailer, as new details such as Doctor Strange 2’s 148-minute runtime have been hinted at.

After director Scott Derrickson’s departure, Spider-Man’s Sam Raimi hopped on board to helm the sequel. While it would’ve been interesting to see what Derrickson would’ve cooked up, Doctor Strange 2 looks to be in good hands. From its deeper exploration of the multiverse to the rumored cameos, which include Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Fox’s Fantastic Four, Raimi seems to have created one of the MCU’s most bonkers and expansive projects to date.

Joining Cumberbatch is Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer. The film is also written by Michael Waldron, the screenwriter praised for his work on acclaimed shows like Rick and Morty and Loki.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will arrive in theaters on May 6, 2022.
