Dominic Fike will perform tracks from his debut studio album “What Could Possibly Go Wrong” from Epic Games’ new studio and soundstage in Los Angeles, California built specifically for Fortnite concerts. The Naples, Florida rapper and singer is one of the rising stars of the alternative hip hop genre, with his 2018 debut single “3 Nights” peaking in the top ten of the charts in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom and being certified Platinum by the RIAA. Fike has collaborated with the likes of singer Halsey and the boy band, Brockhampton.

While an in-game concert is nothing new for Fortnite, this will be the first time that it will be performed in a location other than an artist’s home. It will be interesting to see how the production value of a proper studio and soundstage will compare to the previous streams of artists like Diplo, Steve Aoki, and Deadmau5. These particular streams were broadcast from the artists’ homes to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Ever since the first Fortnite concert with producer and DJ Marshmello which resulted in a new concurrent player record at the time, Epic Games has continued to up the ante with the choice of artist and the production value of the performances. The construction of a whole new studio dedicated for this purpose signals the Cary, North Carolina-based company’s intent to present Fortnite as not just a game, but a multimedia experience.
While it would be unreasonable to expect Fike’s performance to be at the level of Travis Scott’s, which included a merchandise capsule and the debut of his collaborative single with Kid Cudi, “THE SCOTTS,” Fike should benefit from the large audience that Fortnite as a platform can provide by introducing them to his music. A live performance with a band will be markedly different compared to a full gameplay experience with new assets, but do not let that detract from what is shaping up to be a good act.
Although Dominic Fike’s star is rising, the other two artists that Epic Games have lined up for later performances on September 19 and 26 could completely blow his appearance out of the water. Rumors are rife surrounding the identity of these other two artists, with datamining suggesting that Drake could be one of these artists. If Drake is indeed one of those artists, then any lingering doubts surrounding Fortnite’s star power may completely dissipate.
Fortnite is available now on mobile devices, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
