From its initial release in 2013, Klei Entertainment’s survival game Don’t Starve seemed like a perfect candidate for mobile gaming. It actually did pretty well as Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition (only available on iOS), but now Android users will also be able to play the creepy survival game.

It seems Maxwell continues to pull people into the Constant, the wide open landscape full of strange dangers and madness that every Don’t Starve player is acquainted with. The Don’t Starve: Newhome trailer shows six characters, but if you look closely at the in-game shots, there is evidence that players will be able to customize their own characters: the gentleman seen atop the rock in the final shot appears in one of the game stills as a blond. Players are also likely to run into characters from the original Don’t Starve.
Klei Entertainment is not directly involved with this release, and is instead leaving development up to Shengqu Games. Early images show it is staying true to the iconic spooky art style, and gameplay is likely to involve the same tap to move interface as previous versions of Don’t Starve. Shengqu Games is also known for Dungeons and Dragons Online, Fallout Shelter Online, and Borderlands Online, so this is not their first tango with established franchises.
Beta testing is a vital step in game development, just ask Team Ninja, developer of Nioh 2. Interested players should visit Don’t Starve: Newhome’s website right now and sign up with their Apple ID or their Gmail address to be considered for the closed beta test. Lucky participants will expect an email before mid-July and an exclusive in-game item once the full game is released.
Closed beta testing for Don’t Starve: Newhome begins mid-July 2020 for iOS and Android.
