A national Emerson College Poll found that if the two men were to go head-to-head in 2024, Trump would be slightly favored with 47 percent against Biden’s 46 percent. Biden has split job approval among registered voters, the poll found. It said that around 47 percent disapprove and 46 percent approve of the work he is doing as president. The other 7 percent were undecided. Of the Democrats polled, 60 percent said they would see Biden as the 2024 presidential nominee, while 39 percent said they would rather it be someone else....

While sharing a Newsweek article on Truth Social about how a number of MAGA Republicans criticized Sears after she publicly denounced Trump following the GOP’s poor midterm performance, Trump attacked her as a “phony,” while renewing his attacks on Youngkin. Trump had endorsed Youngkin in the 2021 gubernatorial election against Democratic governor Terry McAuliffe, but Youngkin appeared not to embrace fully the former president’s backing or support his MAGA agenda to appeal to independent and moderate voters....

Law enforcement agents are tracking a number of threats that vary in specificity and credibility, an unnamed federal official briefed on the matter told the Associated Press. Predominantly posted online, these threats include plots to attack members of Congress as they travel to and from Capitol Hill during Trump’s trial. These threats, combined with fears of a second insurrection after the riot on January 6, have led the U.S. Capitol Police and other federal agencies to insist thousands of National Guard remain in the capital....

Up until today, it seemed as if Trump had not changed his mind. In a series of tweets October 9, Trump said that U.S. presence in the Middle East was “the worst decision ever made” and that he was in the process of bringing U.S. troops home. Two days after those tweets, the Pentagon announced that the deployment will include a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, two Patriot batteries, two fighter squadrons and one air expeditionary wing, according to CNN....

On Monday, Trump confirmed that FBI agents had searched his Mar-A-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. He released a statement condemning the act and said “nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before.” He added: “After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate.” He went on to call the raid “prosecutorial misconduct” and a “weaponization of the Justice System....

However, last week’s criminal referrals might break Trump’s lucky streak in the new year. In its final public hearing, the House committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot announced it was recommending that the DOJ pursue four criminal charges against Trump, who is officially running for president in 2024. Although an indictment will ultimately be left to the DOJ’s discretion, the final report released by the committee could give prosecutors more incriminating evidence that they might need to build a case against Trump....
